Sam & Ethan | Their quiet elopement on Max Patch in October...

If you've ever been up to Max Patch, you just get it. It's a precarious trailhead to get to if you're not used to bumpy, windy mountain roads. I'm not saying you *need* a 4 wheel drive. But it probably helps. (I did once drive a Mini Cooper there. Barely made it. Almost ran out of gas. But that's a story for another time. You're here for romance.) Once you park, it's beauty from the get go and it just keeps getting better the further you hike.

And, if you've ever been to Max Patch, you get it. The weather up there can be crazy unpredictable. When I have a shoot planned up there, I'm constantly checking various weather apps and radars for days even though I know most of the time it's wrong. It'll call for sun and it'll be the most torrential downpour you've ever seen. It will say rain, rain, rain and there won't be a cloud in the sky. You just have to trust that whatever Max Patch wants to give you that day, it will give you, and it will be perfect.

It was perfect. A whisper of autumn and golden sunshine, ending with that lovely Appalachian purple to end the evening. I shot these on film and digital and was really pleased with the film scans from this one. Enjoy!
